Particular caution should be exercised when using Xylodex 0.05% regeneration or Xylodex 0.1% regeneration in case of: taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or other drugs that may cause increased blood pressure, increased intraocular pressure, especially in the case of narrow-angle glaucoma, diseases of the cardiovascular system (ischemic heart disease, hypertension), pheochromocytoma of the adrenal glands, metabolic diseases (e.g. hyperthyroidism, diabetes), hypersensitivity to sympathomimetic substances. The use of the product in people with such hypersensitivity may cause insomnia, dizziness, tremors, heart rhythm disturbances and increased blood pressure, patients with porphyria, patients with prostatic hyperplasia. Patients with long QT syndrome treated with xylometazoline may be at increased risk of severe ventricular arrhythmias. Do not use doses higher than recommended. Due to the risk of atrophy of the nasal mucosa, the medicinal product should be used in chronic rhinitis only under medical supervision. Long-term use of sympathomimetic drugs or their use in doses higher than recommended may cause reactive nasal congestion and, consequently, narrowing of the airways. The "rebound effect" leading to narrowing of the respiratory tract causes the patient to continue using the product repeatedly until its use becomes permanent, resulting in secondary drug-induced rhinitis medicamentosa or even atrophy of the nasal mucosa. In milder cases of reactive nasal congestion, it may be appropriate to discontinue the sympathomimetic drug first in one nostril (to keep part of the nose open) and then in the other nostril after symptoms have resolved. Due to the risk of transmitting infection, the drug package should be used by one patient only. The product contains 0.2 mg of benzalkonium chloride in each ml of solution. Benzalkonium chloride may cause irritation or swelling of the nasal mucosa, especially if used for a long time.
